Here's what's happening...
So, I started reading 50 Shades of Grey ... the book that EVERYONE is talking about and secretly loves to love. I really wanted to like it. I tried. I got about a quarter of the way through the book and I just can't finish it. It's really kind of disturbing to me. OK very disturbing, as in 'gives me the willies' kind of disturbing. I'll try to pick it up again soon and see if I can finish it. Maybe I am the only moron in the world that doesn't like this Mommy-porn book?? Maybe it gets better- who knows. And now I hear a movie is in the works? Really? That ought to be interesting.
I kind of had the stomach flu really bad for several days - I don't wish that on my worst enemy. It was hideous. It started with my daughter last Thursday - she woke up throwing up in her bed and then again after she had her milk in the morning (Hmmm maybe not a good idea to fill her up with milk after she just upchucked!) - so I kept her home from daycare and she bounced right back with a nice bland diet of banana and rice. No fever. No anything else. Lucky kidlet.
Well, I guess that stupid virus got tired of trying to attack a resilient child that never gets ill, and it made it's way to me good. It got me on Friday night. It got me from all ends and knocked me on my ass. I won't go into details but use your imagination. This was even after I sanitized the entire house, including the dog's paws.... and the evil virus still got me! My husband is a saint - he was such a help when I was sick - God love the man!
We did however manage to make it to Donaldson Farms last Saturday for the Strawberry festival and pick strawberries! I did it for my daughter - we picked a ton of strawberries (5 lbs I think!) - and after that, I was starting to fade, I needed to go home... but we still had so much fun. But, then I paid by laying on the sofa all night with a 101 fever feeling like death. Oh well. All for the good of the child! The vicious illness was gone by Sunday night.
Strawberry picking was so much funnn! Julianna was not into it at first, but I showed her how to pick the strawberry and eat it - WELL that was all she needed. She threw down snoopy (her beloved companion for the afternoon) and went to work. She learned fast to pick the bright red strawberries since they were the sweetest. She would pick one & eat it. Pick one and put it in the box. Pick another eat it. And so on ... She loved it. I can't wait to go back and pick rasberries soon! We also tried our first attempt at strawberry jam (well, brian did since i was not well still) - it came out decent but a little bitter. But it's a learning process. Next time, we add more sugar.
And last but not least...I finally got with the times. I pulled the trigger.
I got an Iphone.
Yayyy Me! I knew I wanted an Iphone since my husband has one (and loves it) and I am seeing how everything now is geared towards the Iphones. Apps are all made for Iphones or Droids now. Blackberries have fallen by the wayside for personal use. I had a Blackberry for the last 3 years and loved it - but the time has come. So long Blackberry my old friend. Hello Iphone my new friend! It's time for Itunes, Instagram and Icloud! I have joined the evil empire.
Blackberries seem to be geared more towards business use now - My husband has a Blackberry for work and a iphone for personal. As much as he loves his Iphone, he said he would never want one for business, it's not suited for that. Makes sense now that I have had both.
So yes, I am with the times - lovin' my Iphone. :)
Incidentally my user name on Instagram is SkyeFillmore
{Please follow me so I look like I have friends!}
Now I just have to learn how to use it. Hmmmm.
Here are some pictures from the recent week
Enjoy your week!
Love the pictures. Particularly the one where her face is all smooshed in strawberry goo. haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the second book in the series of 50 Shades. I'm glad to hear you say it. I'm not really that into it either; although, I keep reading it. It's a train wreck. The writing is sub-par (I'm one to talk...ha) and the fact that this girl "needs" this man so bad is disturbing to me. (Just like Bella in Twilight) I will say that the S&M stuff gets toned down a lot in the second half of book 1 and the first 100 pages of book 2. (That's as far as I've gotten.) HOW ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THIS MOVIE? It surely will have to be rated X.
Yeah, for me, when things get hyped up so much, I usually get let down b/c I am expecting something great - and yeah the writing is just not that good at all. Kind of lame really. But it IS a trainwreck. Like I said, I am going to try and pick it up again and see if i can get into it. Maybe at the pool one day when I don't have to think much haha. And as for a movie, I just can't see how they can make it unless they tone it down A LOT lol.
DeleteP.S. I didn't know you could follow people on Instagram (I'm an idiot)
ReplyDeleteP.P.S. Glad you are feeling better.
Thanks! TOday I am feeling 100% finally! I feel like I might be the last one to join instagram LOL but still not sure what its all about ... seems neat so far I suppose :)
DeleteOh I love strawberry picking, hehe looks like Julianna prefers the eating them part ;)
ReplyDeleteYes she sure does! We will be heading back in a week or so no doubt - she just loved it so much !!
DeleteI haven't read the book, but of course have heard all about it! I've heard that the writing is pretty bad and a lot of people can't get past that. I'm really trying to avoid ever reading it, i'm sure once i start I would have to finish it just because, so I really don't want to start on it! As for a movie....sounds like it would need to be one made for "special" video stores from what I've heard! Ugh, now that I've commented on how bad the writing is in the book all I can think of is the many typos/bad writing I probably do all. the. time. on my blog....
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of J with strawberry all over her! Soooo cute.
Stomach bugs are awful, I had one last summer, luckily my mom came to the rescue to take care of Kylie, I couldn't have done it and my husband couldn't take off work because it was not long after his mom had passed and he had absolutely no days left. Kylie ended up getting it for just a few hours, I had it for a couple of days, and my poor hubby had it for several days :( Glad you are over it!
Yeah - the writing is pretty terrible - almost like those super cheesy romance novels I used to read when I was like 20 - I think Harliquinn Romance or something. Ugh! I got lucky with the timing of my sickness, it was on the weekend, so Brian was home the entire time (poor guy!) and took care of me and Julianna thank goodness. I was useless - so no way I could have taken care of J. Funny how Kylie only got it for a few hours too - these kids are so resilient - nothing brings them down for more than a few hours - amazing!
DeleteBeen there, done that. It's no fun. I'm glad you're feeling better. Wonderful photos, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah the sickness has left the building luckily - yay
DeleteI felt the same way about Fifty Shades of Grey. I read the first book but I didn't care for it at all.
ReplyDeleteYeah Kim, I remember you saying you weren't sure about it - and now I know why. At least I'm not the only one LOL.
DeleteGlad you're feeling better! Those strawberries look so good! I can't wait, another month or so for us :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yeah, we love fresh fruit - especially my daughter- she could eat strawberries, peaches & bananas until she fell over! haha!
DeleteOh man, the stomach flu, that's the worst. Especially when you have someone else to take care of, too. Ick!
ReplyDeleteWay to pull yourself together for the good of the child, haha. You still take awesome pictures, even when you're under the weather!
Haha thanks! I pulled it together for a few hours like a trooper but laid on the sofa the rest of the night LOL.
DeleteI've heard about the book but haven't read it. I'm sorry you got the stomach virus (these are the worst); I'm glad you are feeling better. I have never been strawberry picking which is strange becasue I love strawberries. I really need to take my little one. Love your pics; looks like a blast!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, you should try to take your daughter – you guys will have fun! I loved seeing all the kids there picking & eating all the strawberries – so cute! And its nice having fresh berries (not the store bought ones with pesticide on them – yuck!) - all week long. We want to go back soon! :)
Deleteok. first things first...50 shades...UGH. for real. i am on chapter 7 and i can't manage to force myself to pick it up. it is just so poorly written and whatever mr. grey is into is just not my thing. i mean, i'm not a prue...or maybe i am? but....no. just no. so you are nto the only one. i feel a sense of almost societal guilt for not drinking the kool aide....
ReplyDeletei am so sorry to hear you were sick :( but so glad you are feeling better!!!!
now. more importantly...strawberry picking! we went last weekend too and it was AWESOME! Benny had so much fun. i just think it is so great for the kiddos, cuz they can get involved and dirty without us parents telling them "no"....it looks like you guys got some gorgeous ones too! that pic of julianna with the juice all over her face is killing me. she is so pretty....
did you take these pics with your 50mm/f1.4? they are killer!
Oh good! I am sooo glad I'm not the only one that is kinda of yucked out by that book – I really don't feel so bad now after hearing a few of you say it LOL. I DID feel the pressure to drink the kool-aide, so true! Haha!
ReplyDeleteOh you guys went strawberry picking too – awesome! I bet Benny loved it too! So much fun – we will be going back for sure! And this time we won't have to rush – we can take our time :)
Oh – the pictures – thanks! I actually took those with my 18-200mm lens (my new friend I got on mothers day weekend) - I have been using that quite a bit, I haven't touched my 50mm since then which is a freakin shocker! I am just having so much fun with my new 'walk around' all purpose lens and getting used to it – I am loving it very much so! :)
I've been on the fence about 50 Shades of Grey. I'm never one to jump on the band wagon (I'm only just now reading the Harry Potter books for the first time!!!!) and the subject matter really doesn't interest me either. I'm sure at some point I'll read it but I'm not really running out to do it now. Besides... I've still got 2 1/2 more never ending Potter books to get through!
ReplyDeleteLOL Amanda - Yeah take your time in getting to "50 shades of disappointment" - It made my skin crawl. Stick with Harry Potter LOL- I Never read those either but I hear they are all wonderful! Enjoy !!
