Useful Tip for bloggers; regarding Internet Explorer 8

I am somewhat of an Internet junkie and consider myself to be a pretty smart PC person... (considering that's my profession!)
I just battled with something in IE8 that affected blogging, and it occurred to me if it bothered me, it has to totally bother other people too!! (I compare it to a paper cut... just annoying enough to bother you)

Here's the scenario -
Ya know when you go to comment on a blog (like mine) that has a pop-up comment window? Well sometimes, when the window opens up, you get that annoying message that says: "Security Warning - Do you want to view only the web page content that was delivered securely? "
and then you have to click YES or NO every stinkin time. ('No' shows you everything).

Well. It's really rather annoying. So you would think the obvious fix would be lower your IE Security settings to medium or uncheck a few things in IE Advanced Settings that let IE allow secure sites?? Nope, not necessarily...

Here's the fix -
1. Open IE, Go to Tools -> Internet Options
2. Select the "Security" tab -> Make sure "Internet" is chosen. Click the "Custom Level" button
3. In the "Miscellaneous" section change “Display mixed content” to Enable. Click OK then APPLY (and/or OK) to get out of IE Advanced settings.

4. Restart browser... and Wallah - No more annoying HTTPS message.

Now... I will say this - not everyone has the same security settings chosen in IE8, so you may need to tweak the security level for the Internet zone as well...
Do this only if you are comfortable & be very careful what https sites you go to as always.

Personally, I know how to avoid bad things on the Internet and have never had a virus or spyware/malware issue. This is just so no one blames me for a malware attack they get in 5 months ... "Well, Skye told me to turn off this setting in IE and now I have a virus" (Yeah well, try staying off Porn sites and maybe you won't get a virus or malware next time! LOL) ... No it will not give you a virus by changing this setting.

Happy Blogging.

  5. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I've had a great time looking around your blog (I'm your newest follower). Julianna is adorable! It looks like she's really close to Harry's age--he turned 6 months on Thanksgiving. And I had no idea IE made commenting a hassle...I'm completely in love with Firefox!
