The basic idea of Operation Holiday is this; They list families daily that need specific things this holiday season - For instance, a mother is out of work, and their 12 month old daughter needs PJ's and onsies... you go out and buy PJs or onsies... gift wrap them... label the package with the case# and send it to Operation Holiday.
Then they give the gift to the family and they have something to open on Christmas morning. How awesome is that?! I love it. I donate something every year. I read through the stories, and choose someone that hits home with me ... and it is such a great feeling to help others!
From the Daily Record:
Since 1971, Operation Holiday, a non-profit organization sponsored by the Woman's Club of Morristown and the Daily Record, has raised more than $2 million. Last year donations totaled more than $136,000 and the campaign provided more than 600 families and individuals with necessary items they couldn't afford and granted some of their special wishes.
Each day from now until Christmas, we're sharing the stories of those referred to Operation Holiday by more than 20 social service agencies in Morris County. Many find themselves alone during the holiday season. We ask for your donations to do what we can to help lift them up in the spirit of the season.

Update 12/6/10 - The Daily Record gave me the DIRECT link to Operation Holiday for anyone interested!
Please think about helping these families out if you can ... every little bit counts. I feel so fortunate that Brian and I have jobs, a roof over our head and no real worries. I feel like I need to pay it forward.
I think this is awesome that this is happening!
ReplyDeleteI'm very proud of you, Skye. You are truly a compassionate human being.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. We've actually adopted a whole family through a local hospital, I did a post about it. It's so great to be giving to someone who really needs it this holiday!
ReplyDeletep.s. Regarding Elf on the Shelf, wait until your daughter is old enough to open the box and understand the book. Maybe next year but maybe even the year after.
Bless your heart Skye! This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. We have something like this at our local church. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great service project! I love supporting local organizations that help like that.
